PIZHICHIL

Pizhichil Treatment massage is an ayurvedic massage with lukewarm herbal oils. Pizhichil is a gentle and synchronized ayurvedic treatment massage, which is done with a constant flow of warm medicated oil. This is a highly rejuvenating treatment that enhances muscle tone and retunes the entire nervous system.

A tender synchronized massage of up and down is carried out on all parts of the body other than the head are subjected to this treatment. The patient rests on the treatment table and two to four trained therapists perform the massage under the supervision of a physician. It is administered in seven standard positions so that no area of the body is left uncovered.

Here, cloth dipped in lukewarm medicated oil is squeezed over the patient’s body uniformly and then the oil rubbed smoothly over the body of the patient by masseurs on either side. The treatment includes continuous oil pouring over the body, then rubbing and stimulating the skin using hands and special cotton cloths. Special caution has to be taken for the patient’s head should not get sweat during the treatment. Hence a cloth is tied over the forehead of the person to prevent oil from getting into the eyes.

Fresh medicated oil is used every day and the duration of Pizhichil is decided by the Ayurveda expert after the body constitution of the individual has been determined.

How Pizhichil Therapy is Performed 

Doctor’s Consultation: Firstly, Ayurvedic practitioners analyze the patient’s current condition. They check the Dosha balance and review the medical history through a detailed consultation. This assessment helps to select the right herbal oil for your therapy.    

Oil Preparation: Selected herbal oils are warmed to a comfortable temperature. Because warmth oils enhance blood circulation and penetrate deeper into the body.    

Oil Pouring: The Patient is asked to lie down over a massage table where he feels relaxed and comfortable. Then oil is poured over the entire body in a systematic pattern. Cotton pads are also used to distribute oil equally.    

Expert Massage: Ayurvedic experts start to massage the body as oil flows over the body. They apply mild pressure during massage that nourishes the body deeply and relaxes muscles.    

Duration and Body Detox: One session of Pizhichil takes 40 to 60 minutes for completion. Because of warmth oil application, mild sweating (Swedana) occurs, which helps to eliminate toxins from the body.    

Post-Therapy Care: The patient is advised to rest for an hour to let the body absorb the herbs and show their therapeutic benefits. Excess oil is removed with mild steam therapy.
